9 of 12 people found the following review helpful By This review is from: Contagion (Plus Bonus Features) (Amazon Instant Video) CONTAGION is an important film for the general public to see. It addresses the etiology of contagious diseases, how they begin, how they are introduced in to the world population, how they can be viewed as instances of germ warfare, how they are examined by both the US Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization, how they are disseminated, the processes required for creating a vaccine, how the treatments are managed, how individuals are affected both directly and indirectly, who decides the priorities of treating large number of people around the globe, and how in the face of a world crisis certain evil people can take advantage of the fear and make millions off unsuspecting terrified people. Yes, this information is in articles readily available for public consumption, but nothing surpasses a well-written film for getting the message across in a memorable way. Writer Scott Z. Burns produced the script and Steven Soderbergh mold this story with great skill. The cast... Read more 6 of 8 people found the following review helpful By Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?) This review is from: Contagion (Plus Bonus Features) (Amazon Instant Video) This movie was great. Glad I didn't listen to the negative reviews. The extras are great also. Thanks to all the scientists that are working in this field. 1 of 5 people found the following review helpful By Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?) This review is from: Contagion (Plus Bonus Features) (Amazon Instant Video) I watch about 30 videos a week, that's a lot however being wheel chair bound, what else is there to do? This movie was with out a doubt the worst I have ever seen. Just when you think they isolated an actor, they switch to a different actor. Too much replay, example when you first see a chapter or two, some one thinks that you must see parts of what you just watched. No way to develop any kind of relationship to an actor. |

And I am very glad I did because this film is a real hidden gem! If you enjoy heist/caper films, you will definitely enjoy this. It's not prefect (in fact, it may be just a bit predictable to the most experienced film-watchers) but this is a very slick, beautifully produced, skillfully directed, smartly written movie and is still a lot of fun to watch. Great acting here as well. Reynolds again was terrific in the lead. He is fast becoming one of my favorite actors and is the man to watch in the future. David Suchet is awesome as well as the suave villain. Alternating nicely between suspense, comedy and even a few breathless action sequences, this film is one the most enjoyable surprises I've seen in a long time. Definitely a keeper. An important note to DVD... Read more 26 of 29 people found the following review helpful By This review is from: Foolproof (DVD) I thought this Canadian movie was pretty well made. I love heist movies or films where they use really cool, high-tech ways of breaking into safes and other things... so this one was right up my alley. I can't say I was disappointed. The movie starts out with a group of three people who, for fun only, plan how to break into places and safes ... making their plans "foolproof" so that they are able to go off without a hitch (it's just a game to them). They never carry out their plans though ... until a set of their plans is stolen. Then a mob-like guy contacts them and makes them break into a safe for him. I don't want to give too much away because it has good twists and turns in it. But if you are looking for an entertaining, exciting, funny, interesting movie, definitely give this one a try. Ryan Renolds is a great actor - he made the movie better just by being it. The supporting cast was pretty good as well. It wasn't an award winning movie or anything, but for a night at... Stubble? Beard? Goatee? Why, then he's probably a ruff-n-buff take-no-guff rumbler, perhaps a cop or mercenary do-gooder. Clean shaven with a smarmy grin? Why, then he's probably a fast-talkin' slick-n-sassy womanizer who is struggling with personal demons in spite of his uber-confident exterior."Foolproof" is unique, not just because it was the most expensive and most widely released Canadian film for its time, but also because it showcases Reynolds as an enjoyable mix of both of his time-tested cinema personas. He isn't wholly one or the other. In this case, he is Kevin, an insurance claims investigator who, along with his friends Sam (Kristin Booth) and Rob (Joris Jarsky), spend their spare time figuring out "foolproof" plans for daring robberies and bold heists. They don't ever actually plan to DO any of said robberies/heists; these are just brain... Read more |

I bought it expecting extended and restored scenes, instead I got a totally different ending and hilarious scenes cut out. This version ends with the little boy outside trying to clean up the blood on his front steps rather than giving the bully a swift kick in the nards. One of the scenes cut out is the scene in the gym where Willie and Marcus are trying to teach the little boy how to defend himself. That was one of the funniest scenes in the movie. The packaging is deceptive. If they had said, "new ending" on the notes, I would have left it alone. It didn't and I wasted my money. I thought I would come on here and post a warning. 30 of 33 people found the following review helpful By Wheelchair Assassin (The Great Concavity) - See all my reviews This review is from: Bad Santa (DVD) For those of us who can't quite get into the Christmas spirit, "Bad Santa" is a massive preemptive strike against all of the insufferable sentimentality we're going to be subjected to a few months from now. This movie is every bit as entertaining and funny as "School Of Rock," but where "School Of Rock" succeeded through the overwhelming weight of its good intentions, "Bad Santa" (its moderately heartwarming ending notwithstanding) is all about bad intentions. This movie, especially in its powerhouse first half, displays such a commitment to mean-spiritedness that you can't help but love it. Billy Bob Thornton's safe-cracking department-store Santa Willie is the epitome of ugliness, all the more so because he commits much of his mayhem in his work outfit. Early on we see him getting drunk and throwing up in an alley, and from there he remains in the gutter for much of the movie. He chain smokes, he wets himself in his chair, he fornicates in a dressing room, and above all, he... He elected to remain even though I advised him this was an adult film (seems the R-Rating didn't seem to do the trick). I stressed that was probably not suitable for his son - even if my answer to his inquiry: "Well, it's about Santa Claus isn't it?" was "YES". Because the entire answer was: "YES, but a very, very baaad Santa". After the movie, the viewer told me that I was correct, that he should have left, and that he had in fact started to leave several times during the film, but didn't. He added that he himself did not like the... Read more |
